How the secret works
Order the cake
Choose 6" or 8", round or heart, and whether the colour goes in the sponge or the filling.
Someone tells me
Your doctor or a friend emails orders@berrylemoncakes.com one word, pink or blue, with your order name, at least 3 days before.
I bake it
The outside is the same either way, so nothing gives it away, even at pickup.
You cut it
The first slice shows pink or blue, in front of everyone.
Order at least 7 days ahead. Free pickup at 200 North End Ave, or delivery in Manhattan from $15.
Pink or blue, in the sponge or the filling
In the sponge: vanilla sponge coloured all the way through, so every layer shows it.
In the filling: white chocolate ganache or Swiss meringue, tinted pink or blue, between vanilla or chocolate layers.
Shape and design: round or heart, with hand-piped roses, pearls, a border and lettering like "Oh baby!" included. More detailed designs are quoted.

How much does a gender reveal cake cost?
My gender reveal cakes are $160 for a 6" that serves 20–25 and $185 for an 8" that serves 30–35, round or heart-shaped, with a simple hand-piped design included. Pickup in Battery Park City is free; delivery in Manhattan is $15 to $35.
How do you find out if it's a boy or a girl?
After you order, your doctor, a friend or whoever holds the envelope emails orders@berrylemoncakes.com with one word, "pink" or "blue", and your order name, at least 3 days before your date. Only I see it. The outside of the cake looks the same either way.
Is the colour in the sponge or in the filling?
You choose. A pink or blue vanilla sponge shows the colour in every layer as soon as you cut. A coloured filling, in white chocolate ganache or Swiss meringue, gives bands of pink or blue between vanilla or chocolate layers.
Can you make a heart-shaped gender reveal cake?
Yes, in both sizes, at the same price as a round one.
Do you make gluten-free gender reveal cakes?
Yes, on request: mention it when you order. My kitchen also handles wheat, so I can't promise there are no traces.
What can the design look like?
Hand-piped roses, pearls, borders and lettering such as "Oh baby!", "Boy or girl?" or "He or she?", in white or soft colours. I don't make tiered cakes, printed images or hand-painted designs.
How far ahead should I order?
At least 7 days before your date. If your date is sooner, ask me anyway and I'll tell you honestly whether I can fit it in.
Do you make baby shower cakes too?
Yes. Any of my cakes can be made for a baby shower, in soft colours with piped lettering, and I can also style the table: see Grown-up celebrations.
