The short answer: at Berry Lemon Cakes, a custom birthday cake in New York starts at $90 for a 4" bento cake for two or three people, and at $160 for a 6" layer cake that serves 20 to 25. With every extra, the 6" and 8" cakes run from $160 to $310. First-birthday smash cakes cost $70 to $110.

Per serving, the 6", 8" and sheet cakes all come to about $5 to $8. If you are between two sizes, go for the larger one: it leaves some cake for the next day.
How much is a smash cake?
My first-birthday smash cake comes in four versions:
- 1 layer with a number candle: $70, no added sugar.
- 1 layer with a candle and a paper topper: $85, no added sugar.
- 2 layers with fruit filling: $95, no added sugar.
- 2 layers with a piped frosting design (colours, drawings or a name): $110. This frosting contains sugar.
The no-added-sugar versions are sweetened only with banana baked into the sponge, with a fruit-only filling. A smash cake is just for the baby, so if you are expecting more than a few guests, add a bigger cake for everyone else.
How much is a gender reveal cake?
My gender reveal cakes are $160 for a 6" that serves 20–25 and $185 for an 8" that serves 30–35, round or heart-shaped, with pink or blue in the sponge or in the filling. Your doctor or a friend emails me the colour, so the secret stays sealed until the first slice. You can order one online.
What the price includes
- Your choice of sponge: vanilla, chocolate, carrot, vanilla blueberry or red velvet.
- Up to two fillings, such as lemon curd, dark chocolate brigadeiro, salted caramel, white chocolate ganache, Kinder Bueno ganache or fresh strawberries. The combination my clients love most: chocolate sponge with white chocolate ganache and fresh strawberries.
- Your frosting colour and a short piped message.
- A relatively simple hand-piped design in your colours. On the 6", 8", sheet and Long Table cakes it can include flowers or a few decorations on top, such as berries.
Less sugar? The sponge can be made with no added sugar for any size. The frosting still contains sugar. Just mention it when you order.
What changes the price
- An extra layer: a fifth layer on the 6" or 8" cake is +$25; a fourth layer on the sheet cake is +$50.
- Toppers: a paper topper is +$15. A handmade fondant figure is +$50 each, and you can add up to two online. Three or more are quoted.
- Detailed designs: sculpted themes, tiers, a personalised topper or very elaborate decoration are quoted. Send me your idea and I reply within a day with a design and a price.
- Delivery: pickup in Battery Park City is free. Delivery is free in North Battery Park City, $15 below 14th Street, $25 from 14th to 34th, $30 from 34th to 59th and $35 from 59th to 96th Street. Brooklyn starts at $40, for orders of $150 or more.
The bento cake can't take toppers or figures, because the box closes over the cake. The Long Table cake doesn't take paper toppers or fondant figures; other decorations on it are quoted.

- First birthday at home in Tribeca, about 20 guests: a 6" cake with 4 layers and one fondant figure ($210), delivered ($15). Total: $225.
- A 25th birthday while visiting New York: a 6" cake with 4 layers, picked up in Battery Park City (free). Total: $160.
- 40th birthday dinner in Chelsea, 30 guests: a Grand 8" cake with 5 layers ($210), delivered ($25). Total: $235.
- Class party on the Upper West Side, 40 children: a sheet cake with 3 layers and a paper topper ($295), delivered ($35). Total: $330.

Choosing the size in ten seconds
- Just you and one or two others: Bento Box.
- Up to 25 guests: 6" cake, my most popular size.
- 25 to 35 guests: Grand 8".
- 35 to 45 guests: sheet cake.
- 50 or more, or a long party table: Long Table cake.
- A first birthday: a smash cake for the baby, plus a bigger cake for the guests if you are expecting more than a few people.
How far ahead to order
Cakes need at least 7 days' notice, and parties at least 15. If your date is sooner, text me at (646) 866-0258 and I'll tell you honestly whether I can make it.
